Training experts- building bridges between researchers, communicators and the media

To strengthen researchers’ ability to engage with society, Malmö University launched an internal training initiative focused on research communication. Malmö University´s Media academy for researchers is a tailored programme designed to help researchers take on the role of media experts and become active voices in public discourse.

It covers social media, opinion writing, international press, and practical exercises in interview technique and strategic messaging. It encourages reflection on the researcher’s role in society and offers tools to communicate with confidence, clarity, and impact.

A central goal is to support researchers in stepping into expert roles in the media, and to navigate the opportunities and challenges of public visibility.

A key factor in the programme’s success has been the relationship building between researchers and research communicators – laying the foundation for lasting collaboration and trust.Developed by the University’s Communications Department in collaboration with University management, the initiative highlights how targeted support can strengthen academic outreach across disciplines.
