Streamlining tradition: A digital introductory course for new students

OsloMet has developed a digital introduction course to help new students transition into higher education. Recognizing the challenges many students face when moving from secondary school to universitythe course provides essential information, practical tips, and insights into student life. Designed for first-year students it also includes a version for master’s students, consisting of five interactive modules with videos, texts, and reflection tasks. Our aim is to ensure students feel welcomed, prepared, and ultimately reducing early dropout rates.

Although the course has been a success, ensuring its relevance, increasing student participation, and effectively communicating its value remain key challenges.

• How do we communicate the value of the course to our staff so that it becomes a useful resource in engaging new students?

• How do we involve staff and students in constantly improving the content?

• How can we strategically promote the course to increase the student participation?
