Birgitte Lyhne Broksø & Jesper Bang Vinther

New marketing horizons: Embracing new challenges and staying on trackafter big administrative changes

For many years, Jesper Bang Vinther and Birgitte Lyhne Broksø, togetherwith colleagues, had focused on marketing selected programmes at the SCIENCE faculty. But from 1 March 2025, the University of Copenhagen implemented a comprehensive administrative reform, and among otherthings, all forms of physical and digital marketing of the University ofCopenhagen’s programmes were combined into one unit – ProgrammeMarketing. With that combination came responsibility for many more and very different programmes than the natural sciences. The unit lackedemployees, had no overview of the economy and the interfaces to importantpartners were far from in place.

How do you approach the task of embracing all faculties and programmesand meeting widely differing needs when there is uncertainty and you canget a bit stressed about the big change? Does it make sense to create yourown strategy – or is a vision with a simple action plan enough? How do youquickly learn about programmes and faculties that you only knowsporadically? What has been particularly challenging – and when has it just been really fun and meaningful?

After the first year in the new setup, Jesper and Birgitte will take stock of the task, results, challenges and successes – and, at best, provide experience-based dos and don’ts for others who may be facing a similar major upheaval.
