Taking the elevator pitch to new heights
Taking the elevator pitch to new heights
An elevator pitch is a valuable tool for any researcher—a short, accessible explanation that engages people outside one’s own field. At Halmstad University, we decided to take the concept literally.
Our campus neighbors the Trade Center, a 22-storey building with a 45-second elevator ride. Researchers are challenged to explain their work in the time it takes to reach the top—a true elevator pitch.
The results are filmed and shared widely: on project websites, in conference presentations, and through Halmstad University’s YouTube channel. The format not only makes research more engaging for the public and for funders, but also strengthens Halmstad’s brand as a place where knowledge is made accessible.
In this session, we present how the idea was developed, how researchers have embraced it, and why it has become a win-win concept for communication, visibility, and collaboration
